Direct Democracy proposal for Health
Revamp of anti-drug use/abuse campaigns
The People's Administration believes that the heavy use of propaganda within government anti-drug campaigns can actually contribute to an increase in drug abuse and ill health through the effects of distributing misinformation which creates a perceived lack of integrity for the information.
We believe that some campaigns actually contribute to the problems because people who use drugs can not identify with the campaigns because the campaigns are unrealistic when compared with the actual experience. We believe that this is then seen as lying and spreading propaganda and therefore, that the problems communicated are not taken seriously by the user/abuser.
How can we expect such messages to be taken seriously by children, when most children know that both alcohol and cigarettes are far more dangerous than canabis?
How can we expect such messages to be taken seriously by children, when most campaigns still separate alcohol and cigarettes from 'drugs'?
A brilliantly blatant and recent example of such propaganda is the BBC's [state-controlled channel] 'How Drugs Work' series . All mention of the dangers and how smoking cannabis can cause psychosis [for example] yet no mention of how UK government scientists have in recent years discovered that it is also a cure for psychosis, and in the US, also now an aid in the treatment of:
• Alzheimer's disease
• Lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
• Breast cancer
• Brain cancer
• Opioid dependence
• Spasticity in multiple sclerosis
Evidence of this is supported by the following institutions - all are campaigning for legal access for patients:
• The American Medical Association
• The American College of Physicians [America's second largest physicians group]
• Leukemia & Lymphoma Society [America's second largest cancer charity]
• American Academy of Family Physicians
• American Alliance for Medical Cannabis
• American Public Health Association
• American Psychiatric Association
• American Nurses Association
• British Medical Association
• AIDS Action
• American Academy of HIV Medicine
• Lymphoma Foundation of America
• Health Canada
The People's Administration believes that information about the potential dangers of using or abusing any drug should come only from scientists, those who have experienced drugs and/or have been directly affected by drugs. We believe that this information will be more realistic, honest and identifiable to the user, and therefore will have a more positive effect and, become more financially efficient to the tax payer and better for all of society in general.
Based upon the figures for drug-related deaths below [2008 - ONS], it is clear that the use and/or abuse of illegal drugs are the smallest threat to health whilst the use and/or abuse of cigarettes poses the largest threat:
• Cigarettes: 85,000
• Obesity: 30,000
• Alcohol: 6,500 [increasing by approx 30% pa]
• All Illegal drugs combined: 1,700
It is obvious that current and past anti-drug laws and campaigns are not working. Whilst we insist that decriminalisation and legalisation “send out the wrong messages” then we insist on misleading ourselves. The People's Administration believes that it is necessary that society accept that people take drugs regardless of any messages because the messages simply aren't working. Whilst we prioritise our morals over logic and compassion, individuals and society will suffer.
How is it morally okay for alcohol manufacturers to sell us their messages in their advertising campaigns, despite them contributing to the effect of turning our children into a nation of alcoholics?
Should the People's Administration install direct democracy, we propose to review and revamp all current anti-drug campaigns to enable them to effectively target the biggest problems.
Voting for direct democracy outside a general election
It is up to us, the people [not the politicians] to use the power that we have always had, to choose to implement direct democracy as soon as possible.
This is not a protest campaign.
In accordance with Magna Carta Article 61 and with UN UDHR Article 21 and with all democratic principals up-held by the UN [which the UK is signed-up to], the People's Administration's Direct Democracy Twitter blog is a UN-sanctioned and legally recognised voting format for UK reform to direct democracy - even outside a general election.
Vote legitimately for a peaceful and structured UK reform to direct democracy now simply by following the People's Administration's Direct Democracy Twitter blog and when numbers reach a point of critical mass, we'll do the rest.
The People's Administration's constitution for reform to direct democracy and our voting protocols for implementing direct democracy have both been accepted by the UK Electoral Commission and the UN as legitimate. In a general election, the People's Administration DOES NOT have to field candidates to secure your vote on the ballot paper. Outside a general election, you can vote for a legitimate reform to direct democracy now by following @self_rule
